Last week 20 year old Steve Fox from Haverhill won his girlfriend 18 year old Rosie McFall a Valentine's Day gift bonanza, for being the district's 'Least Romantic Man' as awarded by The Guineas Shopping Centre, Newmarket.

The Centre had issued a call for the district's ladies to nominate their man as the area's least romantic and be in the running to win £500 of goodies from shops at the Centre. It was a close call but Rosie's heartfelt description of Steve's past lacklustre performance in the romance stakes and his obvious potential, given he has actually made an effort, made him the stand-out winner. In fact Rosie thought she was entering to win a prize for him!

Ladies were asked to nominate their partner's worst habit and to tell the judges what their worst present had been. According to Rosie, the first time she and Steve celebrated their birthdays together she "got him a flying lesson and he got me a teddy, that was the worst present he ever got me". And while the judges agreed that there wasn't a great deal of expenditure in the purchase, they were impressed that he had at least considered what she might like and had spent his own money, showing romantic potential!

When asked what Steve's worst habit was, Rosie said it would have to be "being a complete man, he thinks going to watch a football match is a romantic thing to do and that after having made plans to take me out for a meal he makes me pay." Oh dear, Steve you might need to re-think that last one! And while apparently Steve hates it when Rosie suggests romantic things they could do together, she does still "love him to bits though!"

When brought to The Guineas to pick up their prizes Steve was man enough to admit his failings and a good sport about having his worst habits exposed. Clearly he and Rosie are a very well suited couple and mad about each other and he admitted he had already bought her a card and present. They seemed pretty happy with their additional prizes of a voucher for a romantic meal at The Pantry, Champagne and chocolates from Marks & Spencer, a gorgeous bouquet from Jayne's Florist and a selection of vouchers from Black Cat Gifts, Roman Originals, Argos, Superdrug, Topshop and Jose Hair Design.

Dishonourable mention must go to the anonymous nominees whose worst habits involve farting and either blaming the cat or commenting on their aroma and who need to brush up on their present-buying rather than using their partner's clubcard points to buy her present.
